i'm a bible student and the i've been told that this issue depends on my conscience.. .
i am a jiu jitsu student and have been for a 4 years.
it's more of a sport.
How would you help this Bible based conscience kind of person with the question of what sports are considered violent and forbidden by Jehovah?, you don't seem real eager to help since no answer was given. But, Jeff... you are only interested in debating with me since I have all the answers but you choose to be in the dark still. I have been on this forum before so I am not fresh meat and will not be ashamed to prove what I know is right. There is a right way and a wrong way to do things just like there is a right way and a wrong way to play sports.
brobennett-
I read all your comments and I did not see a single Bible quote that proves what Jehovah likes or does not in the area of sports - I would tend to believe that Jehovah has better things to be concerned about than sports - all of your comments are in support of watchtower dogma - and that is not the same thing - although you have been taught that it is - I did not attack you - if you read my quotes - I attacked your thinking and it's obvious origins with a God-usurping organization that seeks to control with legalism and forgets to allow conscience to guide anyone -
Take exception with it if u will, my friend, but Jehovah just does not make all these matters black and white as you would like to.
As to judging - I leave that to my Master Jesus. I judge not you, but your errant views that subs wt quotes for the hold word of Jehovah.

dilemma (n.) - a situation involving choice between equally unsatisfactory alternatives.. .
that's exactly where the governing body - and directors- find themselves.. they are becoming painfully aware of growing malaise and lack of growth in the organization.. in response, they could:.
scream louder about armageddon being close ( not likely to work).
1) The WTS is strictly end-time oriented. AGREED so they could be really bold and actually state 2034 (1914 +120 years of Noah) and worry about the embarrassment wehn it fails later. But wouldn't they hemmorage out of existence before 2034? It seems like most would see the 'grasping at straws'.
Then again maybe not - look how long some of us hung on after 1975....
Jeff
do you believe the bible is the word of god?
i ask because i believe it's important for searching jws who come here to not only learn if there are christians here but also to hear from them personally what their thoughts on the bible are.
i believe the bible is the word of god, do other chriatians here also believe that?.
Greenpalm...
I absolutely believe that the Bible is God's word - read it every day - the only diff is, I read it now for what it says, and not the interpretation of a legalistic board of rules that the WTS, IMHO, has become.
I am glad to see and hear these kinds of thoughts here - I think most of us became 'Chrstian witnesses' - I for one did not lose that faith, just faith in the WTS. Thanx for asking

The WTS is strictly end-time oriented. The fantasies that have been painted to us and others before us have not panned out. In the early days - previous to the ability to research and verify, as we can do well today - they could get away with just moving dates and times - 1799 just faded off - 1914 was altered in meaning. Many never noticed - or died off and left the new generation in the dark about the past.
So I think the dilemma that faces them is - How do we move the 1914 date forward and begin another century of barking up the tree that we barked up in the past? I don't see how they could do it without massive bloodletting.
They have started that process I believe with the change of understanding about the '1914 Generation' - how or what they do next is the tricky part. Can they somehow alter the understanding of what 1914 meant then create a new date that breaks the tie-in to 1914.?
I am sure we will stay tuned to see.

It is also funny to see people respond only to my reasoning since they should be trying to help the person who started this thred.
Bro,Bro, Bro... that is what we are trying to do - we are hoping that that person will allow balance and choice of things in life to be determined not by some set of legalistic dogma manufactured by a group of old men sitting in an ivory tower in Brooklyn. Rather that reason and personal choice might be allowed. None of the sports and settings that you attempt to forbid are mentioned in the Bible - even the NWT did not go that far!
I have remained Christian post-watchtower. I do not think that Christians should engage in violence - but the examples you make by and large might just miss the point. You are just pointing to a WTS rulebook - trying to let someone's conscience be your guide. God gave me one and you - let's use that instead of WTS dogma. IMHO

When we lived in texas (circa 1982) - on brother - a real kiss the CO's a** type, said that he was told (by the CO I think it was) that to even invite others to his home to watch football might be considered a reason to be deleted as a servant - do to the violence....

i was at university the other night in the computer lab, cruising this site, well a fellow classmate who has been in my class since sept and we have become friends, walks past, looks at the site i am on and says, "i noticed you are on a jw site, did you know i am a jw, are you one?".
i was shocked.
i turned to him and let loose,.
My sister-in-law recently embarked on a major 'shunning' of my wife and I -
The crime? I mentioned in an email that I was tired of hearing the same old 'the sky is falling - end time junk' - that I had lived thru the 1975 fiasco - that was all I said - it thru water of her recent Circuit assembly zeal - that was all it took
Trust me folks - shunning is still in effect - it don't take much!
after reading ray franzs 2 books and much information on this site we did a search comparing wt qoutes and had a local elder soon to be circuit ovsr at our house and the funny thing was he was unaware of much of the early wts.he also expressed some doubts when he applied to be a ministerial servant and they sent him back a letter making him an elder.his wife was here and when we brought coc out she jumped up like a person on fire.
the elder asked where else could we go?so there is doubt amoung the elders for sure.
i have a sense of loss however cannot support a self proclaimed prophet that is contrary to scriptural teaching and associated with falsehood and bloodguilt.
Well the illustration used by the WT concerning other religions is: If a glass of water had a drop of poison in it would you drink it?
Does anyone know where this is stated? I am in the process of creating my DA letter - also trying to help my cousin 'out' before I DA if possible - I would like to use that quote if possible -
Thanx Jeff
i've heard it's true.
a girl that my sister knows actually visited the kingdom hall that he was in.
sorry if this has been posted before.
I think he is just another Michael Jackson - talented, rich. But like Michael, he will not be able to sing Brooklyn approved for long - he'll have to put disclaimers on everything that disagrees with WTBTS official policy - like MJ did.
I personally think he is just a weird character anyway. The money always wins the battle of faith in these cases, be it sports or mucic or whatever - I think he is prob just bored being weird - looking to be weirder.
